The Flame (Chappell)

The Flame is a short story written by Fred Chappell. It was first published in the 1995 anthology 100 Vicious Little Vampire Stories, edited by Stefan Dziemianowicz, Martin H. Greenberg, and Robert Weinberg and was reprinted in the 1997 anthology Southern Blood: Vampire Stories from the American South, edited by Martin H. Greenberg and Lawrence Schimel.
