Ray Nelson, played by Toby Huss, is a character in the 2018 film Halloween.
Ray is married to Karen Nelson, the estranged daughter of Laurie Strode. Together, they have a daughter named Allyson. He is shown to have a fun, plucky sense of humor at the beginning of the film as he repeatedly tries and fails to bait mouse traps.
When the family gets together for a celebratory for Allyson for her academic achievements, he meets her boyfriend Cameron Elam. Cameron is the son of Lonnie Elam, who Ray used to buy drugs off of, alluding to Ray having lived a wilder life in his younger years.
In the novelization, his character is a little more confrontational toward Laurie. He is frustrated with how she raised Karen and how despite repeated chances at reconciliation, she cannot let the past die and repeatedly shows up inebriated.
When Laurie's fears are realized and Michael Myers escapes and returns to Haddonfield, the police take Laurie, Karen, and Ray to Laurie's home for protection and a squad car remains outside the residence. Deputy Frank Hawkins promises to find Allyson and bring her to be with the family. When Ray goes outside to greet who he believes are two officers, to ask if they had located Allyson, Michael comes up from behind and strangles him to death.
