Matt Hooper, played by Richard Dreyfuss, is a character in the 1975 film Jaws.
Matt is an oceanographer who assisted Martin Brody to investigate the shark attacks in Amity. He is able to determine that the same shark that killed Alex Kintner also killed Christie Watkins even though the medical examiner initially ruled her death was due to a boating accident.
He joins Brody onboard the Orca, piloted by Quint. The three of them go hunting for the killer shark resulting in Quint's death. After Brody blows up the shark by shooting an oxygen tank, Brody and Hooper use debris from the destroyed boat to paddle back to the shore.
