Gary Grooberson, played by Paul Rudd, is a character in the film Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
Gary is Phoebe Spengler and Podcast's middle-school science teacher, whose scientific expertise is seismology with some knowledge in history, culture, and the paranormal. He is a Ghostbusters fan and an amateur parapsychologist.
He is impressed by Phoebe's scientific mind and thrilled to discover she is the grandaughter of former Ghostbuster Egon Spengler. Gary, Phoebe, and Podcast take the ghost trap she discovered hidden in her house's floorboards to the school parking lot. he manages to open it but accidentally releases one of Gozer's minions.
Gary later takes Callie Spengler on a date where he impresses Callie by showing an interesting in nurturing Phoebe's interest in science. The date is interrupted when Muncher flies through town and Trevor, Phoebe, and Podcast gie chase in Ecto-1. He arrives in the town jail to bail out the kids and offers Callie a second date, undeterred by the craziness that interrupted the first date.
Gary goes to Wal-Mart to buy icecream and witnesses miniature Stay Puft Marshmallow Men come to life. He stumbles upon Vinz Clortho eating out of a bag of dog food. When Vinz notices him, he runs away but is unable to escape as Vinz possesses him.
A possessed Gary goes to the Gozer Temple and destroys the setup Egon created to prevent Gozer from coming back. He meets with Callie and together they open the portal to allow Gozer to return.
After Gozer is defeated, Gary emerges from the calcified shell of Vinz Clortho.
