Gaira, performed by Haruo Nakajima, is a kaiju who first appeared in The War of the Gargantuas.
Gaira is a giant green humanoid who attacked a ship, prompting a survivor to say that Frankenstein attacked and ate the crew. Gaira is repelled by lights, thus does not retreats from Tokyo due to the bright city lights. A second giant named Sanda eventually fights Gaira at sea. As the military drops bombs on them, a volcano beneath them erupts, seemingly destroying them both.
