Every Mother's Son is a short story written by Rick Hautala.  It was first published in Maine Impressions, Vol. 1, No. 2, March 1987.  It was reprinted in The Horror Show, Spring 1989, edited by David B. Silva, and in the 2010 collection Occasional Demons.  It was reprinted again in the 2013 collection Glimpses: The Best Short Stories of Rick Hautala

Synopsis[]

Babies around the world are being born without finger or footprints. Later, due to their vacant eyes, they are assumed to have no souls. A doctor takes desperate measures to be sure his own baby has a soul upon its birth.
