Ernest P. Worrell is the central bumbling protagonist of the 1991 film Ernest Scared Stupid. He is played by Jim Varney.
Ernest is a descendant of Phineas Worrell, the man responsible for stopping the evil troll Trantor. Unfortunately for Ernest, Trantor cursed the Worrell lineage, and now the Worrells get dumber with each generation. Due to this, Ernest accidentally releases Trantor and must find a way to stop him before he wreaks havoc again on Briarwood.
