Dr. Jarret, played by Lance Henriksen, is a character in the 1993 film Man's Best Friend.
Dr. Jarret is a scientist for the company EMAX who performs vivisection and genetic engineering. After a break-in at EMAX, Lori Tanner, a television personality and her cameraman, Annie, both break into EMAX and free a Tibetan Mastiff named Max. Dr. Jarret reports the break-in to the police.
Jarret is questioned by the police about Max and reveals that Max is a genetically altered dog, spliced with the DNA of various other animals such as big cats, snakes, chameleons, and birds of prey, giving him enhanced strength, speed, and senses. Max is also prone to violent rages, and Jarret regularly gives him a drug to keep him relaxed, but he fears that the effects of the drug will soon wear off.
After Max shows an aggressive nature, Lori takes it to someone to tells her he'll re-home him. Instead, the man abuses Max who eventually makes his way back to Lori.
Dr. Jarret kidnaps her to lure Max back to EMAX. Once Max shows up, Dr. Jarret attempts to kill him with a shotgun blast before being knocked into an electric fence, electrocuting him. Lori pets Max as he dies.
