A Deadite is a parasitic demon that possesses and feeds on the souls of the living and reanimates the dead. Deadites were introduced in the 1981 film The Evil Dead and appeared in all the subsequent Evil Dead franchise entries, such as films, television shows, and comics.
They were initially unleashed into the world onscreen when a recording of the book Naturom Demonto, a Sumerian version of the Egyptian Book of the Dead, was played on a tape recorder.
Deadites have crossed into other franchises. It was hinted at in Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday that Jason Voorhees may be a deadite. In the comic Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash, Jason was, in fact, briefly a deadite.
