As far as I know, this shit can circle around and get us all again. But for right now, I'm the safest f***-er in the world, because you're still NEXT.
Carter Hornton is a character appearing in the first Final Destination film. He is portrayed by Kerr Smith.
Carter Hornton was a 2000 senior student of Mt. Abraham High School and Varsity Football Jock dating Terry Chaney. He is strongly resented by Alex Browning, Tod Wagner and William Hitchcock.
Alongside Alex Browning, he boarded Flight 180 and was saved by him from the accident to occur at 1.800 feet over John F. Kennedy Airport. Alex's Premonition oversaw Carter be killed by the overlapping wave fire which swept Flight 180's 180 section upon explosion. Therefore, he was killed fourth in Death's Design both originally on the flight and to be the aftermath. He, along with several other people, was saved by Alex Browning who panicked about his seen premonotion which lead Carter to get up into the aisle and attempt to fight Alex for his outburst.
Carter was forcefully removed from the aircraft and continued to engage Alex back at the airport. The plane's explosion led to even more infuriation towards Alex from Carter as he blamed him for all the heartbreak surrounding Mt. Abraham.
Carter and the others cheating death on Flight 180 leaded to the death of several surviving passengers, Tod Waggner, Ms. Valerie Lewton and Carter's (ex)-girlfriend Terry Chaney. Carter can't take anymore of this, and stalls his car on some train tracks in an attempt to kill himself, but changes his mind at the last second. However, his seat-belt is stuck. Alex is forced to take action, and saves Carter at the last second.
Carter's second cheat lead to the direct skip death of Billy Hitchcock via the train propelling a broken piece of the car's door.
Carter, Alex and Clear meet in Paris six months after the events that took place and were relaxing outside a French restaurant when Alex began to see more signs foreshadowing his death. Carter made a joke to scare Alex, saying he was next, and Alex went away to his hotel. Suddenly, a bus almost runs Alex over and hits a pole, causing it to fly into the air and knock a sign out of socket. As the sign comes crashing down, Carter shoved Alex out the way before he was killed. Carter told Alex he was next and he responded by saying his death was skipped. Carter warily asked, "So who's next?" just as the sign swings back and crushes him.
Originally Final Destination had an alternate ending where Carter did not meet his death in Paris. In this ending, Alex died via the electrocution which saved Clear from her alight car. The death of Alex lead to Clear carrying a child courtesy of him and Carter now being a soft-spoken caring character.
Photograph's of Carter and newspaper articles regarding to his demise, surivival of flight 180 and participationf of the Mt. Abraham Memorial are seen on Officer Burke's internet investigation, following the anniversary accident on Route 23.

Tens that Death is still after them. When Carter learns that he is next on Death's list he goes into a rage and parks his car on railroad tracks, wanting to die on his own terms. He changes his mind at the last minute, but cannot get out when his seat belt jams. Alex manages to save Carter just seconds before his car is smashed by an oncoming train, and Death skips him.
Six months later, Carter visits Paris with Alex and Clear Rivers to celebrate their survival. Shortly after Alex explains that Death still hasn't skipped him, Carter saves him from being hit by a large neon sign. When Alex says that Death has now skipped him, Carter asks who is next, and the sign swings back down towards Carter, revealing that once Death has skipped everyone it will go back to the top of the list and start over again. Carter was killed and crushed in a falling sign while in Paris moments after saving Alex from the same fate. He was the fifth survivor of Flight 180 to die. Although his death was off-screen it was confirmed in Final Destination 2.

Carter's death
As Carter steers to save Alex at the last second, a huge sign comes and crushes him from behind. He smashes Carter's head hard and crushes his whole back hard. Causing his spine and almost every bone in his body to break like shards of glass. Carter begins a tradition in the final destination saga by being the first person to be crushed to death. The character's crush becomes more crowded in Final Destination 2 with the death of Tim Carpenter, Ian McKinley in Final Destination 3, Jonathan Grove in Final Destination 4 and in Final Destination 5 Nathan Sears will complete the tradition so far.
Carter is mentioned by Rory Peters in Final Destination 2, who says that after witnessing Carter's death he decided not to attend a theater, which later collapsed on the guests. He is seen again via archive footage in

Wait, whoa! We get thrown off the plane, we blow what? A half a day in Paris? All because Browning has a bad fucking dream?
Carter Horton is a main character in Final Destination and is a survivor of the Volée Airlines Flight 180 plane crash. He was a senior jock at Mt. Abraham High School and the rival of Alex Browning. Carter was among the students who board the plane.
Carter is the fifth survivor of Flight 180 to die. In the alternative ending, he alongside Clear Rivers, survived after Alex died.
Carter was born in Mt. Abraham, New York. He is very arrogant and hot-tempered, and often fights with Alex which he bullied whenever they're together. He is also dating Terry Chaney, and the two go on the school's annual field trip to Paris together.
Carter boarded Flight 180, with his girlfriend Terry. When Alex attempts to warn the other passengers about the plane exploding, Carter believes he is making the whole thing up as a joke and tries to fight him. As a result, both of them are removed from the plane, along with Terry and five others. After the plane departs, Carter began to criticize and mock Alex, who fights with him at the terminal. While the guards manage to separate them, the plane explodes shortly after, as Alex predicted.
In the aftermath, Carter continued to show hostility towards Alex refusing to admit that he saved him. At the memorial service, he tells Alex that he doesn't owe him anything and that he is in charge of his own life. Carter probably didn't get the news at first, that Alex's best friend Tod Waggner got strangled in his bathtub that evening. Later, Carter is driving with Terry when he sees Alex and Clear Rivers talking at a cafe. When he confronts Alex and begins to mock him again, Terry snaps, frustrated with Carter's obsession with Alex. She then storms away in frustration, reprimanding Carter and breaking up with him. But as Terry steps into the intersection, she is suddenly killed by a speeding bus, leaving Carter devastated. Later on, Carter attempted to carve Terry's name into the memorial plaque for the students that died on Flight 180.
When the remaining survivors reunite, Alex explains that Death is claiming the lives of those who were meant to die on the plane. Carter asks Alex if he predicted the death of their teacher, Valerie Lewton, and then he asks Alex who's the next. After learning that he is next on Death's list, Carter, frustrated over having no control over his life, begins to drive recklessly through the street despite the other survivors trying to stop him. He finally stalls his car on a railroad track, wanting to die on his own terms. Carter changes his mind at the last minute. Initially, Carter happily attempts to start up his car but is quickly horrified as it stalls. Carter starts to panic as he then tries to open the car door, which refuses to open. He then attempts to unbuckle his seatbelt, but it also refuses to do so. After Carter yells that he can't get out, Alex rushes over and manages to pull Carter out just as the train smashes into the car, allowing Death to skip Carter. Seconds later, one of the survivors, Billy Hitchcock, dies in front of Carter, Alex, and Clear when a flying piece of scrap metal is shot out from underneath the train, decapitating Billy and leaving Carter in shock. After Alex realizes how to beat Death's design, Carter stays behind with Billy's remains as Alex and Clear flee the scene. Afterwards, Carter isn't seen for a while, only after Clear is saved by Alex.
Death[]
For all I know it could circle back and get us all again, but I am the safest fucker in the world, because you're still next.
Six months later, Carter, Alex and Clear travel to Paris to celebrate their survival. While relaxing outside a French restaurant, Alex starts to see more omens foreshadowing his death and Carter playfully taunted Alex, claiming that he is next. After Alex leaves the table, he is almost hit by a bus, but it swerves and crashes into a pole, that flies into the air and knocks a sign of its hinges. The sign comes swinging down towards Alex, but Carter shoves Alex out of the way at the last second, claiming that he was right to which Alex responds that means Death just skipped him. Just as Carter questions who is next, the sign swings back down towards Carter as he realizes that he himself is next.
Alternative Ending (Alive)[]
In the alternative ending, Carter can be seen in front of the Flight 180 memorial, crying. After seeing Clear and the son she just gave birth to——Alex named after his deceased father, Carter wipes his tears and says that Alex will never have chance to see him, but Clear responds that “he sees him, every day.” Later Carter says that Alex was right about the design, and claims that they beat death, but Clear responds that they only won a chance at a full life, before a leaf lands on the camera ending the movie.
(THE AlTERNATIVE DESTINATION)
Carter Horton and Clear Rivers stand near a monument in memory of their fallen friends. And say that thanks to Alex's sacrifice, the two of them were able to survive. But then Carter gets hit very hard off-screen by lightning and burns to dust.
In another scenario, Carter, after an alternative, dies in a terrible accident in a new car. And the Clear girl is left alone. And she goes into Final Destination 2.
Final Destination 2[]
Hey, do you guys remember that theatre in Paris that collapsed last year and killed everybody inside? Well, I had tickets to go but one night, I'm in Paris and I'm just tripping on acid and sipping lattes and such. And then all of a sudden, this dude out of nowhere just gets whacked by this falling sign.
Rory, sharing his story to the survivors.
Carter.
Clear, when she notices the previous event.
